In Beyond the Rainbow, Antonio Ufarte explores the relationship between cinema, memory and identity through a series of illustrations inspired by some of the most significant works of the LGTBIQ+ imaginary. Films such as Brokeback Mountain, Call Me by Your Name, Moonlight or Bad Education serve as a starting point for a visual journey through stories that have contributed to the visibility and representation of the collective.
The exhibition proposes a personal reinterpretation of recognizable images and scenes, seeking to capture the emotions, atmospheres and memories associated with these films. The result is a kind of emotional archive that vindicates cinema as a space for meeting, recognition and identity construction.
The title of the exhibition refers to Over the Rainbow, the emblematic song by The Wizard of Oz associated for decades with the imaginary and symbolism of the LGTBIQ+ collective, becoming a tribute to the stories that have helped generations of people to meet and recognize themselves on the screen.
This exhibition is part of the programme of Muestra•t, the cultural festival of MADO Madrid Orgullo, which celebrates its 20th edition by bringing proposals that explore diversity through art, culture and collective memory to the public.
