Carolina arrives in Madrid with a musical monologue that vindicates authenticity and the freedom to be oneself

As part of the LGBTQI+ Pride celebrations and as part of the Pride cycle in French, the Institut français de Madrid presents Diferente, a show by Miguel-Ange Sarmiento that combines musical theatre, cabaret and humour through Carolina, a diva with a sharp tongue and an open heart who transforms her life experiences into songs, anecdotes and shared emotions.

On June 26, Carolina will take the stage to invite the audience to a journey full of love stories, memories, dreams and disappointments narrated with irony, tenderness and a deeply human gaze. Between live songs, confessions and moments of complicity, Diferente proposes a reflection on identity, individual freedom and the beauty of what makes us unique.

Far from being just a musical show, Diferente becomes a celebration of authenticity and diversity, where every story is transformed into an act of freedom. With a close and energetic staging, Carolina breaks clichés and claims the importance of feeling good about oneself, remembering that the most beautiful freedom is to be able to be who we really are.

Behind Carolina is Miguel-Ange Sarmiento, an actor, singer, author and performer with an extensive career on the French and international stages. Trained in Paris and with more than two decades of experience in the field of musical theatre and cabaret, he has developed his own artistic language in which song, humour and emotion are mixed. His work has led him to perform in emblematic spaces and to build deeply human characters, capable of connecting with the audience from closeness and sensitivity.

Awarded the Best Solo Performance Award at the 2024 Avignon OFF Festival, Diferente arrives in Madrid as a fun, daring and exciting proposal that invites us to celebrate difference as a form of encounter and shared freedom. The show is directed by Rémi Cotta, a multidisciplinary artist and regular collaborator of Carolina’s universe, whose stage gaze combines music, poetry and a strong visual sensitivity, enhancing the authenticity and emotional dimension of the proposal.

Diferente is part of the official programme of Muestra•t, the cultural festival of MADO Madrid Orgullo, which this year celebrates its 20th edition consolidated as one of the reference spaces for artistic and cultural proposals that make diversity, contemporary creation and the different forms of expression of the LGTBI+ collective visible.
