Forbidden was born from a memory: a child hiding in a closet full of flamenco dresses, dancing in the dark to find his light. Today, Ricardo Castro transforms that intimate gesture into a series of images that speak of redemption, freedom and poetic beauty.
Photographer, choreographer and dancer awarded as National Cultural Treasure of Spain in flamenco, Castro imprints in his work a deeply spiritual and singular look. Inspired by the baroque chiaroscuro of the great masters, he reinterprets that aesthetic to show what for centuries was made invisible: desire between men, non-normative tenderness, femininity in dissident bodies.
Her art is an open invitation to all people who were once called “too much”: too emotional, too intense, too different. Forbidden embraces them and urges them to discover that their sensitivity is strength, that their difference is beauty, that within them there is a universe capable of changing the world.
Forbidden is part of muestra-t, the cultural agenda of MADO Madrid Orgullo, a space that celebrates diversity through art and culture.
