The screening of Memory and Sexuality of Women under Francoism proposes a look at a historically invisible reality: the experiences and experiences of those women whose sexuality was left out of the model imposed by the Franco dictatorship.
Through testimonies and historical research, the documentary addresses how the regime used morality and social control to limit women’s autonomy, paying special attention to non-normative sexualities and the strategies of resistance developed in the face of repression. Among the stories collected is the testimony of an 84-year-old woman who remembers how lesbian women lived in Barcelona in the forties.
Directed by Cecilia Montagut Acosta and with a screenplay by Raquel Osborne, this feature-length documentary contributes to recovering a fundamental part of historical memory and reflecting on the relationship between gender, sexuality and rights.
This activity is part of the programme of Muestra•t, the cultural festival of MADO Madrid Pride, which in its 20th edition continues to generate spaces for dialogue, memory and the visibility of LGTBI+ realities.
