Taiwan with Pride: Taiwanese Queer Cinema Today

QueerCineMad brings us a journey through the new narratives of Taiwanese queer cinema that unites screenings, literature and encounters with leading figures of contemporary LGTBIQ+ culture.
From June 1st to June 5th 2026

Taiwan with Pride: Current Taiwanese Queer Cinema brings together in Madrid an exhibition dedicated to LGTBIQ+ audiovisual creation from Taiwan. Promoted by Fundación Triángulo and QueerCineMad, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain, the cycle proposes an approach to some of the most relevant voices in contemporary Taiwanese queer cinema and literature.

Over several days, the program combines international premieres, feature films and recent short films that reflect the diversity of experiences, identities and stories present in today’s Taiwanese society. The exhibition also seeks to generate spaces for dialogue between cinema, literature and queer thought, broadening the view of cultural relations between Europe and Asia.

The series will feature the participation of two guests from Taiwan. On the one hand, the film critic Tang-Mo Tan, one of the most recognized voices of Taiwanese cultural criticism, who will present different screenings and participate in talks with the public. He will be joined by the writer and academic Ta-Wei Chi, a leading figure in queer studies in Asia and author of the novel Membranes, who will offer the conference Taiwanese Queer Literature and European Cinema.

The program will start with a short film session and a conference at Ateneo La Maliciosa. Subsequently, Cineteca Madrid will host the screenings of the feature films Second Round, directed by Kuan Chun Chen; Blind Love, by Julian Chou; and See You, by Han Ting Yu, all of them accompanied by presentations and talks with Tang-Mo Tan. The cycle will be completed with an academic talk at the TAI University School of Arts and a new short film session at Proyecto Chueco, dedicated to some of the most outstanding works of the new generation of Taiwanese queer filmmakers.
